Ferrari F430 – A Modern Classic

The Ferrari F430 is an Italian sports car that was manufactured by Ferrari from 2004-2009. Its predecessor was the Ferrari 360, a midsize two seat sports car. The F430 has since been replaced by the Ferrari 458 Italia which debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on February 15, 2009. The F430 is a high end, luxury sports car that sells for a minimum of $168,000 in the United States and more in other countries. This sleek ego booster was redesigned from previous models to be more curvy and aerodynamic and features a few vintage touches from Ferrari racing models from the past.

The Ferrari F430 features several upgrades from previous models. Specifically, drivers now have a selection of five separate settings that control the car’s ESP system from a control knob mounted on the steering wheel. This car also has installed exclusive Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 EMT tyres and was granted an exemption from the design requirements of the US airbag. With a top speed of 196 mph, the F430 has a 4.3L V8 engine installed that was based on a designed shared by Ferrari and Maserati. The engine is capable of putting out 483 hp at 8500rpm and 343 pounds per foot of torque at 5250rpm. The car also has newly designed brakes made from an alloy called molybdenum which offers better heat dissipation. The company claims the brakes have a longer life span than most.

The Ferrari 430 is the basis of several cars that are modified versions of its body type and technical specs. The F430 Spider is a convertible coupe version that features a roof panel that automatically folds back into a space above the engine bay. The F430 Challenge is the Ferrari racing car which carries the same engine but the car’s total weight has been lowered so it maxes out at its highest speed of 196 mph. The F430 GT2 is another racing car with a slightly smaller engine, 4.0L, and a lighter car overall. This car is meant to race in the international GT2 class and so far has won the ALMS and FIA GT in the category of their class of cars.

A third Ferrari F430 racing car, the GT3, was built to compete in the FIA GT3 European Championship. While similar to the F430 Challenge, its body was streamlined to be more aerodynamic, carry a 4.3 L engine and include large exhaust vents. The 430 Scuderia is the successor to the Challenge Stradale. This lighter and more powerful car was created to go up against the Porsche RS models and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. The Scuderia Spider 16M is the convertible version of the 430 Scuderia with the capability of going from 0-100 mph in 3.7 seconds. As a hat tip to environmentalism, Ferrari developed an eco-friendly version of the F430 Spider that runs on ethanol and gets about 5% more fuel economy than the original. The name Ferrari is synonymous with style and performance and the F430 doesn’t disappoint. With its smooth lines and uncompromising high quality engine, it’s almost worth the second mortgage on your house to get one.
